Another Classic Look
Black and White with Stripes
This week, I’m featuring another classic look: black and white with stripes. No matter the season, the black and white with the chic stripes will always be in style. And, since we’re in the last days of the Fall season, I couldn’t resist adding another trend: a military look.
You might have seen the military look mostly on coats and will probably see more of it as the Winter season begins. So, when I saw that this blouse had the classic look, along with the military style buttons, I knew that I had to style it along with another classic feminine look, the flowy pleated skirt.
For the accessories, I went with a gold and shiny theme to match the buttons on the blouse. You’ll notice the black and gold in the watch, shoes, bracelet and in the handbag.
The handbag, in particular is the real star of this look. Of course the color and design are versatile and especially great for the holidays, but it is the story of what happened with it that makes it more special. It will always serve as a reminder to me of the good that still exists in people. Of honesty. And, the power of faith and prayer.
You must be thinking that I may have gone overboard with the depth of my description associated with this handbag, but give me a minute or two to share my personal experience and you’ll understand.
During this photo shoot, you’ll notice that in the first pictures I have the handbag. For the last pictures (the ones in the courtyard and where I am standing by the letter “A”), at some point my handbag was set down and we continued taking more photos of this look.
After this photo shoot and because it was freezing, we ran into the car and that was it. Fast forward to a week later and I’m getting my wardrobe and accessories ready for my next photo shoot. I soon realize that I am missing this handbag!!! I turned my closet and room upside down because at this point, I was sure we had brought my handbag back.
An extensive search in the car also proved useless. It was then that in panic, I knew that my handbag was left behind-a whole week ago-at the courtyard of my local public library.
I had all the odds against me because when I got this handbag, I didn’t have time to put in my ID or anything to say that it belonged to me. I also didn’t have time to cut the original tags off. And, I lost it outside a public place, not inside, where a chance of it being returned to a lost and found was a remote possibility.
Add to all those odds the fact that a whole week had passed by and well, needless to say, there was a very small chance-the size of a mustard seed-that somehow, I would find my handbag.
The realization that I had left my handbag happened on a Sunday and the Monday after that, my husband and I were calling the library in hopes that they might know something.
Slim chances, I know. Several calls later and each time we either got no answer, a “no we don’t have it, but will look out for it” and on one call, an answer that I didn’t expect “Yes!, someone turned it in to us and we have it, but someone came in and claimed it was theirs so they took it.”
Needless to say my heart was on a roller coaster ride. I then got on the phone with my mom and realized that I should kiss my $200.00 purse goodbye. However, my mom told me to have faith. Nothing is impossible to God. If you have faith, even as small as a mustard seed, great miracles can happen.
So, with faith as small as a mustard seed, I said a prayer. I felt slightly foolish for asking God for a material thing. I then remembered what a friend once told me, “We think we need to see big miracles in order to believe that God answers prayers, but it is in the deep, personal things, big or small, that only God would know how much the prayers we are asking for mean to us. So, it is actually in the everyday prayers that you realize just how close God is and how much He wants to help you.”
At around 4:30 p.m., my husband calls me and tells me that the library had called him. Keep in mind this was after they had said it was no longer there. I will never forget his words, “Um, the library called and said that they went looking in their lost and found again and it turns out that your purse was buried in the bottom of the lost and found. They have it and it is ready to be picked up!!!”
This was after we had heard that yes, it was turned in, but someone claimed it and took it!!!! I could not explain how this had just happened! Or maybe, with a little faith, I could.
I immediately started crying out of happiness! A sense of God’s presence washed over me and my thoughts raced to that kind and honest person who turned in my purse. I realized that, that person could have kept my handbag-no ID, outside a public place and brand new tags with it-in my carelessness, I had made it too easy for anyone to take it.
Yet, this person took the time to pick my handbag up, walk it inside the library and report it as missing. I think about that person everyday now and pray for him or her and their needs. For his/her family and for many blessings to them. Yes, there is still some good in this world. My prayer is that in opening up and sharing this story with you, it will inspire you to do more acts of kindness, as it has inspired me too. Let’s make an effort to make this world a better place, one small act of kindness can have a huge and life changing impact!
Thank you for taking the time to read this!
